go cart engines

Apart from go cart engines, consider drive systems as a way to exert more power

Go cart engines are not the only determining factors when it comes to reaching top speed on a cart. Apart from having a killer gocart engine, a killer drive is needed in order to get the most out of your mechanical beast. The simplest kind of drive, and the least efficient, is the direct drive. Here you connect the axle directly to the engine shaft via sprockets and a chain and you’re ready to go. Problems with this drive include that you need to push-start the go kart as well as not getting the best acceleration efficiency. The centrifugal clutch drive may be the most popular method of getting your engine to work at somewhat efficient levels. This drive consists on engaging to a more efficient gear mechanism when a certain speed is reached. Typical speeds using this drive can be expected to reach up to 40MPH, which is more than enough in most cases.

A manual clutch that switches between two gears could be called the most efficient option. Here the driver “changes gears” to get the maximum output of the engine. The setup is somewhat complicated and only experienced go kart mechanics may be able to understand it. Even with a gearbox it could be quite cumbersome to get the system going in a smooth fashion. Another thing to think about is the extra weight imposed on the kart for every chain you plan to add. As you can appreciate, go karts engines are just the beginning of a decent setup.
