The history of gokarts

Getting on the tracks and zooming away with your go kart isn’t the only thing that’s fast in the world of gokarts. Gokart history is just as fast, never as there been a motor sport that has evolved so quickly through the years. It all goes back to 1956 when motor hobbyists scattered throughout the nation began adapting small two-stroke engines to create mini-cars. Engines originally built for WWII purposes where continually used to power-up these “soapbox” cars. During this period, karting wasn’t formalized as a whole, it was just inevitable that enthusiasts began building go karts without knowing what was in store for them in the future.

Art Ingles is the person who has been traced back as the first man who made the go kart stand out in recorded history. With a few other individuals intervening in the process, the gokart was officially born, and it was first coined “go kart” by the magazine “Rod and Custom”. The “Go Kart Manufacturing Company” was incorporated and they began selling gokarts as kits you could assemble in your home. In flash speed, by 1957 the “Go Kart Club of America” was already established and rules and regulations began to spring forth. In less than 50 years we already know how successful and fast growing the go kart industry has become. Almost every country in the world has a karting association, and more and more enthusiasts join the scene every year.
