Home made go carts made out of wood are an excellent way to get started in this hobby

The simplest home made go carts are the ones made out of wood and a lawnmower engine. This type of homemade go kart, although relatively easy to make, can become dangerous if you go too fast. Wooden go carts aren’t as stable as steel made carts, so extra care should be taken when you ride them. On the positive side, building a gocart made out of wood makes it easy to find the necessary materials without having to refer to expensive specialty shops. The challenge is to find a way to turn the engine’s vertical spinning motion to horizontal spinning motion in order for it to make the wheels turn. Depending on your level of mechanical sophistication you can find different ways of accomplishing this, being the simplest to just let the bands cross over themselves and form a 90 degrees angle and connect them to the wheel pulleys.
